I can live with a bit of confusion!
This blog has become a little top~heavy for me now (in the nicest possible way)
It started off from some correspondence with Stephanie Clifton following after similar stuff with Alan Morris.
It started following a relatively specific point, but I moved it onto the F.B. sphere and started going off in entertaining tangents with Marilyn Jones & John Bonehill chiming in.
It’s not a conclusive argument as such. It doesn’t really matter to me if it’s not very cohesive. Maybe I should look at it as a log of thoughts over the past week.

Thanks! Mind I have just written in a blog: Waxing lyrical in image doesn’t happen too often, I have to take it as & when it comes. Bit like having a waking dream, you think "I'll remember that and then slowly but surely you forget." It's kind of a case of nail it down as its happening

I'm a bit in awe about how things seem to be falling into place here.

Stephanie My work sometimes takes forever because I am twirling through life doing lots of things. Artist of Life. No dividing. Each act as important as the end ...completion ... object ..of artistry. Words aren’t there for me either....until they are!

Catch something - nail it down ( in a humane way!) but I fight shy of saying things are specifically here or there. I feel there are normally a few reasons for anything for anything.

Mobile Inner Comfort Circle

Stephanie~ Yeah....I hear ya. Pretty much goes for everything these days.....what any of it means. What we give meaning to is all. Always good to question....but also need a place to rest.

maybe what I'm after is a place where I can work hard - whilst resting.

maybe its a place where you don’t have to carry baggage - like very first thing in the morning

I've just realised, it doesn’t have a gender.

Alan Morris Rush-hour? Sometimes I am intrigued/puzzled by your titles; actually are the titles informative? How do you arrive at them?

Martin Humphries ? Rush- hour? This was simply about going back to "do it again" Quite often they are spot on what the thing is about, and sometimes they are just an intuitive pronouncement that is kind of the picture, but doesn’t set the thing in a definition of stone.

Titles help me to find things. When I collected stamps I could tell in a second whether or not I had a copy!

Alan Morris Oh I hope I didn't upset you! The picture put me in mind of Victoria Station where you could stand at the top of the stairs and watch that river of humanity flowing down into the underground. I'm glad your titles are 'fluid'. Sometimes factual or descriptive and sometimes not. Not sure what you mean with your stamp reference....can you explain please?

Martin Humphries I'll get back to you, a tricky, but useful one to explain. And, I'm sorry but you didn't get near to upsetting me!

It’s a compartmentalising issue.

I used the stamp collector’s example as (maybe) a spurious link.
As the stamps all fit into various disciplines – locations – prices, I feel that that made them all easier to recognise & place them pretty well immediately.
Up to a point, I do find that naming or describing pictures I have made helps to slot them onto perches existing in their own personal space & date.

I find I have to do this more & more, year by year as their numbers mount up.
I have been making stuff since I was 14 ~ more than 50 years.
~ if I made five things a week (as an absolute minimum) ~ 260 a year ~ which adds up to Thirteen Thousand. I mean, where are they all?

He was a practising Tao Master & we had him on Wednesday mornings for a few weeks at Epsom College.
We loved him!

One day, he announced that he was going to teach us about meditation. A big & difficult concept.
He said “sit down and close your eyes”
After half a minute he said “you have now meditated!”.

He saw us enter & sussed us out.
I think he thought that we were laid back & open-minded enough.
So he played, easy as good as Ginger Baker, on one drum.

“Thinking my own thoughts”

Is a picture that I’ve only just finished off.

This is the earlier version to the later work, digitally finished off.

The bulk of it was made at the start of August last year in Erdington.

I was house repairing and sat in the front room that evening and simply doodled.

Here are the others!

I suppose you have to fight to be free thinking sometimes.

I believe I didn’t start the picture to convey a dark emotion.

It just became that. Perhaps, even after I had finished it.

It could quite possibly be about the fact that I had many things that I wanted to do & simply didn’t have the time to even think about them!

I wish I would date my pictures more often, there are thousands of them & I can get quite lost, trying to find things!

This set of pictures is from original notes and doodles from a small – lined (aside) notebook that was used as a kind of idea collecting vehicle.
Which I used as kind of backup on Shipping Hill 2013. Maybe so’s I didn’t forget things, although there are quite a few ideas that didn’t get much further at the time.
They are “little-big” paintings as such.
They started life as little more than thumbnail sketches with ruled lines and coffee stains thrown in.

My intention at this point is to form a cycle of scan – print – paint as an ongoing process, slowly building them up to a saturated level. With each process leading – informing & catalysing the following stage.

Then carrying through to a finished state.

They were scanned – enlarged & cleaned-up
then printed A4 size.

At which point I very quickly (without forethought) threw water-colour-paint at them.

An all round story - I tried to keep this on as open as possible, but realise that I could have hurled more paint at it.

Basically a home for most of the more worked o0n images I have made over the last couple of years or so (more or less)
Of course there is a bit a bit of frustration about them not being big and on canvas, but working out compositions doesn’t make them a bad 2^nd. It also lends itself to rebuilding & adding elements.
The problem is that although I can work out the same kinds of problems, I don’t end up with something solid.
