A Big Day Out.

Time Out.
7-11-2019.

A blog comprising compositions made through the years.
Basically about groups of people going to events and having fun.
Quite different to the antipodean definition of leaving home to see the world for a year or two.

8-11-19
always contains persons or animals, as it’s to do with what they did on that specific day. & also a fitting surrounding for them to perform in.

Big Day Out.
This started off as a design
for a competition
for a poster
for the Cheltenham jazz festival back in the early 80’s.
I must have been fooling myself - starting off a poster on a medium sized canvas.

This construction is a follow~on from the above “big day out”
I found some old knitting machine parts in a box of my mother’s odds and sods & it sprung to me that these were in fact “bods” fit for a big day out.

EV RI BO DI DANZ.
After a solitary painting weekend in Erdington ( June last year) & producing (off the cuff) yet another dance spectacular, I realised how many of my doodles turn into dances.
They can be a big deal on a day out!

“New Escapes”

New Escapes started off as a small biro landscape doodle.
I gave it this title because I’m using it as a vehicle to relax on or in. It doesn’t have anything to prove & it’s not specifically “for” anything, although there is a bit of experimentation as I am adding varnish tints to beef it up and knit it together. (One more time!)
The initial biro surprisingly didn’t come out as relief – maybe it’s more prone to do so when it is scanned after having been drawn on a richly coloured back-ground.
I just about get used to the fact that winter aint far away and -
mainly that the days are shorter, losing the evenings (when it’s nice to relax outside)
Then they take another hour off, bringing the evening into the afternoon.
I should write to my M.P. (only he’s a conservative)

Luminary Effigies

An observational dittie.

One child family
Started off under the working title “Family Portrait”
The next time round showed that there was only one child & as such doesn’t seem to merit the term “family”
Also – there are three people carrying three emotions: curious, satisfied and angry. They just came out like that; there wasn’t a specific story or point I was trying to make.

The original family portrait.

But you have to dive in first.
