Saturating Doodles

28/08/2019.

Saturating
Doodles

1/ doodle / scan
2/ Clean
3/ Print
4/ Paint
5/ Scan
6/ Finish?
This set of pictures is from original notes and doodles from a small – lined (aside) notebook that was used as a kind of idea collecting vehicle.
Which I used as kind of backup on Shipping Hill 2013. Maybe so’s I didn’t forget things, although there are quite a few ideas that didn’t get much further at the time.
They are “little-big” paintings as such.
They started life as little more than thumbnail sketches with ruled lines and coffee stains thrown in.

My intention at this point is to form a cycle of scan – print – paint as an ongoing process, slowly building them up to a saturated level. With each process leading – informing & catalysing the following stage.

Then carrying through to a finished state.

They were scanned – enlarged & cleaned-up
then printed A4 size.

stepping out-side to try & change my mind.

At which point I very quickly (without forethought) threw water-colour-paint at them.

An all round story - I tried to keep this on as open as possible, but realise that I could have hurled more paint at it.

ABOUT TO BE DIGITALISED!

Digitalia

A big one, trying to include all the work I have worked on at some stage digitally.

What a terrible name for a web page!

Basically a home for most of the more worked o0n images I have made over the last couple of years or so (more or less)
Of course there is a bit a bit of frustration about  them not being big and on canvas, but working out compositions doesn’t make them a bad
2nd. It also lends itself to rebuilding & adding elements.
The problem is that although I can work out the same kinds of problems, I don’t end up with something solid.

I know a place where we can go
where time is never planned,
it's not on any chart,
you must find it in your heart,
away there
in never never land.

Early Srinagar 81

Basically a bunch of old photos that I have just come across that I want to put in an accessible place waiting for when I find others to add.

Baramullah Road.

The little house by the sunset.

Look what they've done to my song ma.

This little house is now a large bamboo restaurant, along with many others all the way along the cliffs
and after

The sea was always so blue at noon and always just simply beautiful.

Golden greens, black reds,
Prussian grey to whites and hint of cad

Today there were some clouds in the sky,
and simply everyone at the junction heard of it.

homage to the Mabinogion

Once upon a time, I was thinking of entering a competition (in Wales) with an illustration/painting from the Mabinogion.
I opened the first chapter and there was the story I felt I could paint about - immediately!
- a large voice inside me said "you can't do that, you have to read the whole book!"
I stopped at that point and as yet haven't read the whole book. This picture, although I didnt initially intend it was that image I saw in my minds eye, back then.

The Bridge over the Bitlis.

As I sit here, I'm unsure of when we were in this neck of the woods.
I have a feeling it was late in the 80's.
We may have been driving I don't know, we certainly did a lot of hitching about during those years that spanned the Kuwait invasion.
Thing that got me, was the military were more frightened by the Kurds than Saddam.
I also look a little Kurdish when I've been out in the sun!

Anyway, we passed this bridge, somehow, and I was amazed that people were living in, on and around it. I've seen films like that before.

First scribble in the "diary"

I just felt that this was a story - that could be told, a source of "ready" inspiration!

I didn't realise it, but it stained me.
I seem to be finding the "great stains in my life at present"

I thought that the place name was Bitlis, but that is the name of the river.
Anyway, I've found a couple of prints about a bridge there, but they are old and I really don't remember the town being so far in the background.
Mind, they might have had new bridges since then.

wow, it didn't look like that!
